Auch Microsoft arbeitet an programmierbarer SIM

Cupertino bietet seine (derzeit leider noch wenig ansprechende) Apple-SIM an, Google verfolgt das Ziel der Provider-Unabhängigkeit mit seinem ProjectFi. Jetzt haben auch die Windows-Verantwortlichen von Microsoft den Markt der von IT-Unternehmen kontrollierten SIM-Karten für sich entdeckt.

Zwar hat sich Microsoft bislang noch nicht öffentlich zu seinen Plänen geäußert, bietet seinen Nutzern aber bereits eine entsprechende App an, die den schnellen Wechsel zwischen den Vertragsangeboten unterschiedlicher Netzbetreiber ermöglichen soll und zum Einsatz eine vorhandene „Microsoft SIM“ voraussetzt.

Die App „Cellular Data„, die zum Einsatz Windows 10 und einen bestehenden Microsoft Account voraussetzt könnte zum diesjährigen Mobile World Congress in Barcelona offiziell starten und wird von Microsoft wie folgt beschrieben:

That means no fixed contract and no long term commitments to a mobile network operator. Now you can buy and use mobile data at your own convenience. This is the easiest way to get online using a trusted nationwide network. Purchase a plan via Windows Store anywhere network coverage is available. The Cellular data app can get you connected at any time with a secure, high-speed mobile connection. This app is designed to work solely with specific Windows 10 devices and requires a Microsoft SIM card.
